Theft using the coin trick at the Conad in San Benigno Canavese

In the car park of the Conad supermarket in San Benigno Canavese, a municipality (comune) in the Canavese area in the Province of Turin, a woman had her handbag stolen using the so-called coin trick. The incident is believed to have taken place in the days before 25 October 2026, when it became publicly known [1].

How the theft happened

According to an account shared on social media by a friend of the victim, two people were involved. One of them placed some coins near the rear wheel of the woman's car and invited her to get out to pick them up. While the victim was distracted by this, the accomplice took the handbag left inside the car [1].

The bag, described as beige, contained a brown wallet, a coin purse and a black Samsung Galaxy A22 mobile phone with a black flip case [1].

Report and appeal

The theft was reported to the Carabinieri. The victim's friend posted an appeal on social media, asking anyone who had found or noticed the stolen items to come forward with information that could help recover them, stressing that even a small clue could help [1].

The episode drew renewed attention to the coin trick, a scam based on distracting the victim so that an accomplice can act unnoticed [1].
