Theft of a Wheelchair in Barriera di Milano
News of
In the Barriera di Milano neighbourhood of Turin, the State Police arrested a 42-year-old man with no fixed abode, after a resident reported a suspicious individual inside an apartment building in Rebaudengo to the police [1].
The events
A resident noticed a stranger leaving the lift of a building with a tool trolley. Realising that some garage units in the basement of the building had been broken into, he called the 112 emergency number [1]. Officers from the Barriera Milano police station widened their search to nearby areas and city parks, tracking the man down in Parco Stura as he was pushing a wheelchair [1]. Investigations established that the wheelchair had been stolen shortly before from the entrance hall of the building the man had broken into; it belonged to an elderly man, who got it back almost immediately [1].
The earlier theft from a medical clinic
Checks by the State Police revealed that, in the first half of September 2026, the same man had allegedly emptied a medical clinic in the area, taking laptops, cameras, mobile phones and eyeglasses worth more than 5,000 euros [1]. He had already been reported to the judicial authorities for that theft [1].
The arrest
The man, an Italian citizen with no fixed abode and numerous previous convictions for property crimes, was arrested by officers from the Barriera Milano police station [1]. The judge ordered that he be held in pre-trial detention [1].
