The Teatro Stabile di Torino is the Turin theatre institution recognised as a National Theatre in 2015 [1] [2]. It was founded on 27 May 1955 as the Piccolo Teatro della Città di Torino (Little Theatre of the City of Turin), in the hall of the Teatro Gobetti on via Rossini; its first two seasons were directed by Nico Pepe, then for a decade by Gianfranco De Bosio, who brought Turin's productions to national prominence [1].

In 1961 De Bosio staged «La resistibile ascesa di Arturo Ui» ("The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui") at the Teatro Carignano, which became the Stabile's main venue and passed under its direct management in 1977 [1]. After 1968 the theatre was led by a collective directorship; in the 1990s Luca Ronconi staged productions such as «Gli ultimi giorni dell'umanità» ("The Last Days of Mankind") at the Lingotto and in 1992 founded the actors' school; Mario Martone directed it from 2007 to 2017, and since 2018 the artistic director has been Valerio Binasco [1]. With the 2015 recognition, the Stabile joined the European networks Mitos21 and the European Theatre Convention [1].

Today the Stabile programmes its seasons at the Carignano and Gobetti theatres in Turin and at the Fonderie Limone in Moncalieri; it is chaired by Alessandro Bianchi, and the general director is Filippo Fonsatti [2]. The site teatrostabiletorino.it publishes the programme of the three venues, the institution's history, and documents on its governing bodies and on its National Theatre recognition [2]. In the Torino Top 100 ranking for September 2026, the site is among the 50,000 most visited sites in Italy according to Google's Chrome UX Report.
