Still I Dance - Rising Together at Orsolina28
Date of the event:

«Still I Dance - Rising Together» is the contemporary dance show staged on Saturday 7 November 2026, at 7:30pm, at the The Eye theatre of Orsolina28, a venue of the Orsolina28 Art Foundation Ets in Moncalvo, in the province of Asti. On stage were twelve young dancers from the Still I Rise International School of Nairobi, at the end of a week-long artistic residency hosted by the Foundation [1][2].
The artistic residency
From 1 to 8 November 2026 the Kenyan students were guests of Orsolina28 for a programme dedicated to contemporary dance, choreographic creation and intercultural exchange. The programme was led by Alessio Carbone, artistic director of the Balletto di Venezia and a former principal dancer of the Opéra national de Paris, alongside Guillaume Diop, a dancer of the Paris Opera, Abou Rutayisire, of the Ballet de Barcelona, and pianist and composer Touve Ratovondrahety [1].
The programme included choreographic workshops, movement labs, hip hop and street dance classes with Aurora Denaro and a musical theatre workshop led by Carlotta Bolognese. The young dancers also shared some activities with the students of Scuola28, the Foundation's dance school [1].
The Nairobi school and the collaboration with Carbone
The Still I Rise International School is based in the Mathare district of Nairobi, and offers the International Baccalaureate programme free of charge to vulnerable children and teenagers; in 2024 the institute was recognised as an Ib World School [1].
The collaboration between Alessio Carbone and Still I Rise began in 2024 with fundraising initiatives and introductory dance workshops for the school's students. In 2025, during a visit to Kenya, Carbone started a first choreographic project with a group of students, from which grew the project developed in 2026 at Orsolina28 [1].
The show
«Still I Dance - Rising Together» was the concluding moment of the residency, telling through dance an experience of training, encounter and growth. The whole experience will be documented through an artistic and narrative video. Admission to the show was free, with the option of leaving a voluntary contribution [1][2].
