Orsolina28

Orsolina28 is an artistic training and production centre based in Moncalvo, in the province of Asti. It includes the The Eye theatre and Scuola28, the dance school of the foundation that runs it, the Orsolina28 Art Foundation Ets [1].

The residency with the Still I Rise International School of Nairobi

From 1 to 8 November 2026 the foundation hosted twelve students of the Still I Rise International School of Nairobi, an institute located in the Mathare district that offers the International Baccalaureate programme free of charge to vulnerable children and teenagers and which was recognised as an Ib World School in 2024 [1]. The residency, dedicated to contemporary dance, choreographic creation and intercultural exchange, was led by Alessio Carbone, artistic director of the Balletto di Venezia and a former principal dancer of the Opéra national de Paris, alongside Guillaume Diop, a dancer of the Paris Opera, Abou Rutayisire, of the Ballet de Barcelona, and pianist and composer Touve Ratovondrahety [1]. The programme included choreographic workshops, movement labs, hip hop and street dance classes with Aurora Denaro and a musical theatre workshop led by Carlotta Bolognese, with moments shared between the guest students and those of Scuola28 [1].

The collaboration between Carbone and Still I Rise began in 2024 with fundraising initiatives and introductory dance workshops for students of the Nairobi school. In 2025, during a visit to Kenya, Carbone started a first choreographic project with a group of students, laying the groundwork for the project developed in 2026 at Orsolina28 [1].

The show of 7 November 2026

The residency concluded on Saturday 7 November 2026 at 7:30pm with the show «Still I Dance - Rising Together», staged at the The Eye theatre of Orsolina28, with the twelve young Kenyan dancers as protagonists [1][2]. The experience was documented through an artistic and narrative video; admission to the show was free, with the option of leaving a voluntary contribution [1].
