Site Inspection at the Former Balangero Asbestos Mine (October 2026)
News of
On 19 October 2026 a delegation led by the mayor of Balangero, Franco Romeo, together with the mayor of Corio, Sergio Motta, the deputy mayor of the Metropolitan City of Turin Jacopo Suppo, the president of the Unione Montana Valli di Lanzo, Ceronda e Casternone (mountain union of the Lanzo, Ceronda and Casternone valleys), Guido Bonino, and the board of directors of RSA, carried out a site inspection at the former Balangero Asbestos Mine to check the progress of the remediation and redevelopment works at the mining site.1
The inspection covered two projects: the new 1-megawatt photovoltaic plant promoted by the Unione Montana, now well under way, and the confined disposal volume intended to receive the waste from the remediation, where work is currently focused on laying and compacting the clay for the impermeable base, following completion of the containment wall, built using material from the quarry's last blast, dating back to 1990.1
The Unione Montana has already planned to fund a second photovoltaic plant of similar capacity.1
