Salassa
Salassa is a comune in the Canavese, located in the northern part of Piedmontese territory that falls within Turin's sphere of reference. Its territory borders that of Castellamonte and is crossed by the former state road 565, known as the Pedemontana, a major link between the towns of the area.
Roads and territory
The stretch of the Pedemontana connecting Salassa to Castellamonte crosses the Orco stream via a bridge, located at kilometre 17 of the Canavese road. It is a heavily used crossing point, along which traffic accidents occur periodically.
News
On the evening of Sunday 4 October 2026, shortly after nightfall, two cars collided on the Pedemontana at the entrance to the bridge over the Orco stream, between the municipalities of Castellamonte and Salassa. The crash involved a Subaru Xv and a Dacia Sandero, both travelling in the same direction [1][2].
Following the impact, the Dacia Sandero overturned onto the opposite carriageway, which was free of other vehicles at the time [1]. Paramedics from the 118 emergency service, firefighters from the Rivarolo Canavese detachment and carabinieri from the Cuorgné and Pont Canavese stations responded to the scene and carried out the on-site investigation [1][2]. The woman driving the overturned car was taken to the emergency department of the hospital in Ivrea; her condition was not serious [1][2]. Traffic in the area experienced delays and was regulated with alternating one-way flow until the carriageway was restored [1][2].
