Accident on the Pedemontana between Castellamonte and Salassa on 4 October 2026

In the early evening of Sunday 4 October 2026, two cars collided on the former state road 565, known as the Pedemontana, at the entrance to the bridge over the Orco stream, on the border between the municipalities of Castellamonte and Salassa, in the Canavese. The accident occurred at kilometre 17 of the road and involved a Subaru XV and a Dacia Sandero, both travelling in the same direction.[1][2]

Sequence of events

The causes of the collision are being investigated by the police. Following the impact, the Dacia Sandero lost traction and ended up overturning in the middle of the opposite lane, which was clear of other vehicles at the time.[1][2]

Emergency response and consequences

Paramedics from the 118 emergency service arrived at the scene with ambulances, along with firefighters from the Rivarolo Canavese detachment and carabinieri from the Cuorgné and Pont Canavese stations, who carried out the investigation and managed traffic.[1][2]

The woman driving the overturned Dacia Sandero was treated by medical staff and taken to the emergency room of the hospital in Ivrea; her condition was not considered serious.[1][2]

Traffic along the stretch, which is particularly busy, experienced delays and was regulated with alternating one-way traffic until the road was fully reopened.[1][2]
