Regional Day for Peace

The Regional Day for Peace is observed on 2 October, linked to the work of the Regional Committee for Human and Civil Rights of Piedmont, a body of the Regional Council. Each year, as part of this day, the Committee promotes public initiatives dedicated to peace, dialogue between peoples, civil coexistence and the protection of human rights.

The 2026 edition

For the 2026 Regional Day for Peace, the Regional Committee for Human and Civil Rights, together with the Fondazione CRT, promoted the national conference «Diversità, Dialogo, Democrazia» ("Diversity, Dialogue, Democracy"), held on Saturday 3 October at the Castello di Mazzè, in the province of Turin.[1][2] The event brought together institutions, representatives of the cultural world and citizens in a discussion on the challenges linked to peace, dialogue and human rights.[2]

Speakers

The president of the Regional Council of Piedmont and of the Committee, Davide Nicco, stressed that defending human dignity, dialogue between peoples and a culture of respect are the foundation of a free and democratic society.[1] The Committee's vice-president, Giampiero Leo, described the Regional Day for Peace as the value and cultural reference point of the Committee's activity, stating that a true, just and lasting peace requires coordinating several kinds of action, from diplomatic to educational ones, up to the protection of international law.[1] Leo also announced a follow-up to the conference, including the tour «Due padri contro l'odio e la vendetta» ("Two fathers against hatred and revenge"), an international meeting on Kurdistan, and initiatives for Human Rights Day on 10 December.[1] Vice-president Sara Zambaia emphasised dialogue between different cultures, religions and sensibilities, noting that integration is achieved through mutual respect, shared rules and shared responsibility.[1][2]
