Pnrr electric buses in Turin

The Pnrr electric buses in Turin are the new electrically powered buses put into service on the city’s local public transport network thanks to funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, managed by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (Mit). Turin is one of five Piedmontese cities involved in the initiative, together with Alessandria, Asti, Novara and Vercelli.

The investment

The Mit has put a total of 387 new electric buses into service across the five Piedmontese cities, with an investment of about 240.9 million euros earmarked for local public transport. The Pnrr funds were used to purchase new vehicles and expand the services offered to residents, students and commuters [1].

The national context

The initiative is among the first concrete results on the ground of the more than 41 billion euros managed by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport under the Pnrr. According to the report, the Mit has met all 60 of the targets under its responsibility [1].

Statements

In a statement, the ministry reported that the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini, expressed satisfaction at turning Pnrr funds into vehicles and services used daily by citizens, and said he intended to accelerate future investments [1].
