Piazza Garibaldi Stabbing in Novara
The Piazza Garibaldi stabbing in Novara is an episode of violence that occurred on the evening of 10 September 2026 under the arcades of the square, in the area of the railway station of the Piedmontese city. A man was wounded in the throat with a blade during a dispute that arose over trivial reasons; the attacker then fled on an electric scooter.
The events
A report had reached the police operations room of a man wounded in the neck by a blade. Officers of the Volanti patrol units confirmed that the victim had suffered a slash to the throat, with laceration of the jugular vein: the wound was considered so serious that the officers themselves took the injured man to hospital, rushing him to the city's emergency room [1][2].
The investigation
Already the day after the events, the Squadra Mobile of Novara identified the suspected perpetrator thanks to the analysis of city video surveillance footage and footage from local businesses in the area, combined with testimonies gathered on the spot [1][2]. The evidence collected was forwarded to the public prosecutor's office of Novara, which requested a precautionary measure, which was granted and issued by the preliminary investigations judge on the evening of 28 September 2026 [1][2].
The arrest
On 29 September 2026 investigators tracked down the suspect, a twenty-five-year-old originally from the Ivory Coast, with multiple previous convictions and no fixed abode, in the area of the railway station in Vercelli [1]. The man was found in possession of 29.2 grams of hashish and was therefore reported, without being taken into custody, also for drug possession for the purpose of dealing [1][2]. He was then arrested for attempted murder and transferred to the Novara remand prison at the disposal of the judicial authority [1][2].
