Opening of the «Casa della legalità» on corso Giulio Cesare
Date of the event:
On 6 November 2026, on the ground floor of corso Giulio Cesare 38, in the Aurora district, premises provisionally renamed the «Casa della legalità» (House of Legality) are inaugurated: a space confiscated from organised crime, previously used to launder dirty money, returned to the community and entrusted to six associations that won a public call issued by Circoscrizione 7 (District 7), which received the assignment [1].
The opening
Deputy mayor Michela Favaro attends the opening, describing it as "an act of restitution and enhancement," along with Luca Deri, chair of the seventh district, according to whom "if a space is lived in, it indirectly creates safety," stressing that the initiative opens its doors to everyone in an area of the city where 33% of the population is foreign [1].
The space does not yet have a final name. Among the names proposed for it are Marielle Franco, a sociologist and human rights activist and former city councillor; Suad Benkdhim, a sociologist and cultural mediator from the Aurora district who died in 2006; Gelsomina Verde, who grew up in Scampia and worked in a leather goods shop while being involved with the neighbourhood's children; and Hamid Badoui, a man supported by the Gruppo Abele, who died by suicide in prison in 2025 after asking for help to begin treatment [1].
The associations involved
Six associations will run the new projects dedicated to the area. The association Amis is creating a space open to young people with a migrant background, with mentoring, training and guidance activities to encourage independence and active citizenship. The association Amece runs a listening, mediation and guidance desk for foreign and Italian citizens seeking local and consular services [1].
Amece and the association Hoferlab are also promoting a participatory project on the textile and manufacturing history of Circoscrizione 7, collecting photographs, documents and testimonies that will lead to a public presentation and a self-published book. Ecosport is using the premises to train assistant coaches, hold tactical meetings and plan new teams and tournaments. Spi-Cgil is setting up a free help desk aimed mainly at elderly and vulnerable people, to make it easier to access benefits, exemptions from health charges, support for long-term care, online public administration services and information on preventing fraud [1].
Next steps
The process of assigning the spaces is still under way: some of the premises remain to be allocated, and a new public call will be published in the coming days on the Circoscrizione 7 website [1].
