Moncalvo
Moncalvo is a municipality in Monferrato, in the Province of Asti. It is home to the Orsolina28 Art Foundation ETS, which includes The Eye theatre and Scuola28, the foundation’s dance school [1].
Orsolina28 Art Foundation
The foundation hosts artistic training activities for young dancers, with the participation of international teachers and artists. Among the projects followed by the foundation is the collaboration, begun in 2024, between dancer Alessio Carbone and the organisation Still I Rise, active with a school in the Mathare district of Nairobi, Kenya. The collaboration continued in 2025 with a visit by Carbone to Kenya and the start of a choreographic work later developed in Moncalvo [1].
The project «Still I Dance – Rising Together»
From 1 November 2026 twelve students of the Still I Rise International School of Nairobi took part in an artistic residency in Moncalvo dedicated to contemporary dance, choreographic creation and personal growth. The programme was led by a team made up of Opéra national de Paris dancer Guillaume Diop, Abou Rutayisire of the Ballet de Barcelona and pianist and composer Touve Ratovondrahety, alongside hip hop and street dance classes led by Aurora Denaro and a musical theatre workshop run by Carlotta Bolognese. During the week the Kenyan students took part in choreographic workshops and activities shared with the pupils of Scuola28 [1].
The residency concluded on Saturday 7 November 2026 at 7.30pm with a performance open to the public, free of charge subject to booking, at the foundation’s The Eye theatre. The performance retraced through movement the experience lived by the young people during the residency [1].
