Meeting with Rami Elhanan and Bassam Aramin in Trofarello
On 17 October 2026, at 9 pm, the Polo Culturale Marzanati in Trofarello, at Via Cesare Battisti 25, hosted the presentation of the book «Mio padre, tuo padre, due uomini contro il conflitto israelo-palestinese», with the participation of Rami Elhanan, an Israeli, and Bassam Aramin, a Palestinian, both nominees for the 2027 Nobel Peace Prize. The initiative was promoted by the Municipal Administration of Trofarello in collaboration with the Associazione Energia e Tenerezza and with the sponsoring body ANPI Nicola Grosa.[1]
The protagonists
Rami Elhanan, a graphic designer and former Israeli soldier, lost his fourteen-year-old daughter Smadar in a suicide bombing in Jerusalem in 1997. Bassam Aramin, who in his youth had taken part in the Palestinian armed resistance and had been imprisoned, saw his ten-year-old daughter Abir die after being hit by a rubber bullet fired by Israeli border police in 2007. Both are active in the Parents Circle-Families Forum association and travel the world to promote dialogue and reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians.[1][2]
The book and its authors
The book, published by De Agostini Libri in 2025, is written by Carola Benedetto and Luciana Ciliento, both present at the Trofarello event. The evening was moderated by Sara Bauducco, while the introduction was given by Trofarello's municipal councillor Emilia Tiso. The reflection was accompanied by musical contributions from maestro Elisabetta Piras and by readings and songs performed by Susanna Paisio.[1]
The Italian tour
The Trofarello stop is part of a journey by Elhanan and Aramin through Italy, from 13 to 21 October 2026, touching Sardinia, Piedmont and Tuscany. The tour accompanies the official announcement of their nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize, promoted by ANPI Nicola Grosa and a committee chaired by Paolo Verri, with the support of Giampiero Leo, spokesperson for the Piedmont Interfaith Coordination, the Piedmont Region's Human Rights Committee, Fondazione CRT and Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo.[2]
