Mario Roggero is a jeweller from Grinzane Cavour, in the Province of Cuneo. In April 2021 he killed two of the three robbers who had raided his shop after restraining him, his wife and his daughter; for this the Court of Cassation gave him a final sentence of 14 years and 9 months in prison, as well as an interim payment of 480,000 euros to the victims' families. On 30 September 2026 Turin City Council discussed four motions on the request for a pardon for Roggero, with parties split between those who asked Mayor Lo Russo to act, with the President of the Republic, as a voice for the feelings of clemency expressed in the chamber, and those who urged him to dissociate himself from initiatives that undermine the judiciary's work. In July 2026 the Turin Prosecutor General's office also obtained a precautionary seizure of 50,000 euros, transferred to a Tunisian bank account, to secure legal costs.
