Mabasta campaign against bullying in Piedmontese schools
Date of the event:
The bullying and cyberbullying prevention and countering campaign is an initiative of the Regional Council of Piedmont aimed at primary and lower secondary schools, promoted and funded on the initiative of the Regional Council's president, Davide Nicco. The meetings took place from 27 to 30 October 2026 in sixteen schools located in the provinces of Vercelli, Verbano Cusio Ossola, Alessandria, Novara, Biella, Cuneo, Turin and Asti [1].
The project
The initiative was proposed by Davide Nicco together with the Regional Council's vice-president, Francesco Graglia, and the council secretary, Fabio Carosso. The core of the action was entrusted to the Mabasta student movement, which devised a "peer to peer" protocol through which students themselves identify, prevent and address episodes of bullying, exclusion and abuse of power [1].
The "Mabasta Model" involves adopting concrete tools in the classes involved: the appointment of a "MabaProf", the election of "Bulliziotti" (anti-bullying officers) in each class, the completion of the "MabaTest" and the installation of "BulliBoxes", physical and digital boxes for anonymous reports. The stated aim is to make students active protagonists in protecting their own school environment, countering bullying, cyberbullying and body-shaming [1].
Statements
President Davide Nicco said that the aim is to make young people understand that, faced with an episode of bullying, they should not feel powerless or think the issue does not concern them, stressing that simple gestures, such as noticing that a classmate has been left alone, can make a difference [1].
Mirko Cazzato, founder and team leader of Mabasta, said that bullying is not fought only by talking about it, but by involving young people and making them protagonists of the solution, and thanked the Regional Council for supporting the project, brought to sixteen schools in Piedmont [1].
