Levone
Levone is a municipality in the Province of Turin. On 18 October 2026 it became the lead municipality of the North-West Network of Witch Municipalities (Rete dei Comuni delle Streghe del Nord Ovest), an alliance of five municipalities in Piedmont, Liguria and Valle d'Aosta linked by the presence of historical documents relating to witchcraft trials and events [1][2].
The North-West Network of Witch Municipalities
The protocol establishing the Network was signed at the Teresa Belloc Theatre in San Giorgio Canavese by representatives of five municipalities: Levone (Turin), Miagliano (Biella), Rifreddo (Cuneo), Triora (Imperia) and Saint-Denis (Valle d'Aosta) [1][2]. According to Rosy Falletti, deputy mayor and councillor for culture of Saint-Denis, about a year before the signing Levone had contacted the other municipalities to build the alliance, based not on legends but on documented historical records of witchcraft trials [1].
Aims and content of the protocol
The protocol, lasting five years, provides for the sharing of documents and expertise among the member municipalities, the design of tourist routes and educational paths, both physical and digital, as well as possible joint participation in grants and funding schemes [1]. Its stated aims include promoting the historical memory of witchcraft as an anthropological asset and intangible cultural heritage, building a shared narrative among the areas involved and creating a driver for sustainable cultural and tourism development [1][2]. Among the first planned projects are the creation of a common logo or brand for the Network and a digital portal dedicated to the history of the areas involved [2].
