Launch of the Torino Green Market

On 3 October 2026, the «Torino Green» market debuts at via Carcano 14/A, in Turin, dedicated to reuse and the occasional sale of second-hand goods between private individuals. The market takes place every Saturday and Sunday of the year and was established by a resolution of the City Council on a proposal by the Councillor for Commerce Paolo Chiavarino, in agreement with the Councillor for Ecological Transition Chiara Foglietta.[1][2]

Market features

The market is dedicated to the sale of second-hand goods belonging to the personal sphere of the participants: collectibles, vintage items, books, toys, clothing and accessories, household goods, sports equipment and other items in good condition. The value of each item cannot exceed 150 euros, as provided for by regional regulations.[1][2]

Sales are reserved for private individuals holding a card for occasional sales, called «green. To:», issued by the City, personal, bearing a photograph and non-transferable. Hobbyists in possession of the relevant card may also take part, up to a limit of 36 editions per year. Each seller submits a list of the goods they intend to sell, endorsed by the organizer. Commercial, craft and agricultural businesses and professional operators are excluded; if the requirements are not met, the card may be suspended or revoked in the cases provided for by regional regulations.[1][2]

Purpose and management

The initiative forms part of the city's policies for reuse and the circular economy, with the aim of encouraging the reuse of goods that are still usable, contributing to the reduction of waste, and promoting more conscious consumption patterns. Councillor Chiara Foglietta stated that the opening of the market is also intended to create the conditions for developing initiatives related to repair and care of objects, such as workshops and skill-sharing events.[1][2]

The market is organized for two years, until 1 October 2028, by Associazione Vivi Balon APS, a non-profit organization selected through a public call. The association oversees the organization of the stalls and cleaning services, supplies and utilities, as well as related cultural, social and community activities, which may include repair and sewing workshops and initiatives aimed at young people, families and citizens.[1][2]
