«Join Me in the Underground» is a four-day, three-night event held from 29 October to 1 November 2026 in the spaces of the Tuxedo, the historic venue at via Belfiore 8 in Turin acquired by gallerist Umberto Benappi. The event reopens the venue as it is, "under construction, untouched", before the start of the works that will transform it, with an opening planned for 2027, into the new home of Benappi's gallery [1].

The programme

The group show that opens on Thursday 29 October at 9 pm ranges from the Arte Povera of Jannis Kounellis and Michelangelo Pistoletto to the photography of Paolo Pellegrin, as well as works from the Scuola di San Lorenzo, in dialogue with the memory of the place and inspired by the New York magazine Evergreen Review [1][2]. Around this visual core runs a schedule that includes night-time listening parties from 9 pm to midnight: Tiziano Lamberti and Luca Ruggeri on 29 October, Alberto Campo and Roberto Spallacci on the 30th, Mixo and Luca Ruggeri on the 31st [1]. On Saturday 31 October at 6 pm there is a card-game session using artist cards by Francesco Clemente, curated by Bartolomeo Pietromarchi, followed at 9:30 pm by a sound performance by Marzio Zorio. Sunday 1 November closes with a book rave curated by writer Enrico Remmert and DJ Giusi Brunetti [1]. The cultural programme is curated by Giorgia Zerboni [1]. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, breakfasts are also held in the gallery with Tag Coffee Breakfast [1].

The context

The opening coincides with Turin's week dedicated to contemporary art, alongside the Artissima fair. According to Benappi, opening on these dates "is a statement of intent", because "it would have been reductive to put on just an exhibition" at a time when the city is charged with "energy, enthusiasm and participation" [1]. The gallerist explained that he had searched for a venue "among disused cinemas and clubs, even a petrol station", aiming to give space to culture but also time to meet [1].

The Tuxedo

The Tuxedo opened in the 1970s and became, between the 1980s and 1990s, a landmark of Turin's creative and music scene [1][2]. Its transformation into a space dedicated to contemporary art aims to preserve the venue's spirit, steering it towards encounter, experimentation and cultural production [1].
