Ingria
Ingria is a Piedmontese municipality located in the Canavese, in the Metropolitan City of Turin, in the area on the Piedmontese side of the Gran Paradiso National Park. The mayor in office in 2026 is Igor De Santis.
The request to extend the Gran Paradiso Park
In October 2026 Ingria is one of five municipalities on the Piedmontese side – together with Groscavallo, Pont Canavese, Sparone and Ribordone – that began the process to join the Gran Paradiso National Park. It is the first request of this kind in the 104-year history of the park, Italy's oldest [1][2].
Ingria has asked to include 177 hectares of its territory in the protected area, equal to 12% of the municipal area [1][2]. The procedure has already received a favourable opinion from Ispra (the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research) and is awaiting discussion at the State-Regions Conference [1][2].
On 15 October 2026 the Piedmont Regional Council's Fifth Environment, Parks and Protected Areas Committee, chaired by Sergio Bartoli, held a hearing with the park's leadership on the extension project, at the request of councillor Roberto Ravello. The hearing was also attended by Ingria's mayor, Igor De Santis, together with the mayors of the other municipalities involved and the park's management [1].
The park's president, Mauro Durbano, described the municipalities' request as "a fine sign" of cooperation with the authority in protecting the territory. If approved by the Ministry of the Environment, the overall project would increase the park's area by 8,463 hectares, about 12% more than its current size [1][2].
