The IceCube Neutrino Observatory is an international neutrino observatory. On 6 October 2026 the Belgian physicist Francis Halzen, one of the project's leading promoters, received a phone call in Turin — where he was staying for a meeting of the evaluation committee of the National Institute for Nuclear Physics — with the news that he had won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics for the decisive contribution of the observatory.12
