Gipo Farassino

Gipo Farassino (Turin, 11 March 1934 – Turin, 11 December 2013) was a Turinese singer-songwriter, actor and politician; he was born at via Cuneo 6, in Barriera di Milano, the house of his song «Ël 6 ëd via Coni».[1]

The singer-songwriter

In 1967 he released the album «Auguri», featuring «Sangon Blues», and staged «Cerea Turin» at the Teatro Alfieri; in 1969 he won «Un disco per l'Europa» in Lugano with «Avere un amico».[1] In 1970 he acted in «Due soldi di coraggio» at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan, and from 1971 he worked with Massimo Scaglione in the Teatro Nostro company.[1]

The politician

In 1987 he founded Piemont Autonomista and until 1996 was secretary of Lega Piemonte.[1] He was elected to the European Parliament in 1994, served as a regional councillor from 1990 to 2000 and as a regional assessor from 2004 to 2005.[2][3]

Remembrance

The stretch of the Murazzi south of the Vittorio Emanuele I bridge is dedicated to him, officially named in his honor on 28 September 2017.[4][1] On 12 December 2023 the Regional Council named a hall in Palazzo Lascaris after him, and on 11 March 2026 mayor Stefano Lo Russo unveiled a plaque on his birth house.[3][5]
