Giovanni Genovesio is president of CNA Piemonte, the body representing the National Confederation of Crafts and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (Confederazione Nazionale dell'Artigianato e della Piccola e Media Impresa) at regional level. In this role he has spoken publicly on energy costs affecting micro and small craft businesses in Piedmont.

Comments on the 2026 energy-cost surge

On 25 October 2026 Genovesio commented on CNA estimates of energy spending by Italian households and businesses, which in 2026 could reach €206 billion, surpassing the levels of the 2022 energy crisis [1]. According to the association's projections, an average 20% rise in final prices compared with 2025 would push national spending from just over €172 billion in 2025 to around €206 billion, an increase of more than €33 billion: for households the average rise would exceed €500 a year, while for businesses the extra average cost would exceed €4,500 [1].

Genovesio stressed that, for Piedmont's craft businesses, energy costs are not just a budget item but a matter of competitiveness and economic survival, citing in particular manufacturing, mechanical engineering, food processing, laundries and bakeries as sectors that use energy daily to produce goods and services [1]. He noted that every rise in energy costs draws resources away from investment, innovation and job creation, and that micro and small businesses have far less room than large companies to absorb price swings [1].

CNA Piemonte's position

In the same context, CNA Piemonte's regional secretary, Delio Zanzottera, backed a proposal to set up, in the budget law, a fund of one billion euros a year for small photovoltaic systems to let micro and small businesses generate their own energy, calling for simple procedures, adequate incentives and sustainable financial instruments to make them accessible to smaller firms too [1].
