Funerals of Gianfranco Morgando and Beppe Bracco
Date of the event:
On 25 October 2026 Turin and the Canavese paid their last respects to Gianfranco Morgando and Professor Beppe Bracco, with funeral ceremonies held the same day in two separate places: Borgiallo, in the Valle Sacra, for Morgando, and the church of Valsalice, in Turin, for Bracco.[1]
The funeral of Gianfranco Morgando
The church of Borgiallo, a municipality (comune) in the Valle Sacra, was crowded for Gianfranco Morgando's funeral. The homily was given by bishop emeritus Pier Giorgio Debernardi, a native of the Canavese and former bishop of Pinerolo, who recalled Morgando's commitment to his home area and to the most vulnerable.[1]
Morgando had held a role at the Democrazia Cristiana offices in via Stampatori 4 in Turin from the 1970s, and later became head of the private office (segreteria) of Turin mayor Stefano Lo Russo. Among those attending the funeral were, besides mayor Lo Russo, numerous mayors from the Canavese — starting with the mayor of Borgiallo — members of parliament including former minister Graziano Delrio, Gianfranco Astori, an adviser to the President of the Republic, and lawyer Piacenza. Many figures from the Catholic-democratic area linked to the left-wing Democrazia Cristiana current of Carlo Donat-Cattin and Guido Bodrato were present, together with numerous former members of La Margherita and the Democratic Party.[1]
The funeral of Beppe Bracco
In the late afternoon of the same 25 October 2026 the church of Valsalice, in Turin, was full for the last farewell to Professor Beppe Bracco, a long-time friend of Amintore Fanfani. A history lecturer, Bracco had devoted his studies to the history of Turin, from the story of Pietro Micca to Cavour, from the founding of Ansaldo to mayor marquis Luserna di Rorà, down to the compensation granted to Turin for the loss of its role as capital, a subject also studied by Quintino Sella. He had served several terms as a city councillor and councillor responsible for (assessore) in Turin.[1]
Those present included Vito Bonsignore, now with the UDC, Piero Aceto, Giampaolo Zanetta, former councillor (assessore) Borgione and former deputy mayor Marco Calgaro. Also present was the secretary general of the Turin Chamber of Commerce, Bolatto, together with university lecturers including Piero Terna, Guido Antonio Rossi and Giovanni Zanetti, as well as several members of the Dumse da Fé association, of which Bracco was a member. Among those who read the prayer intentions was Boccardo, a former manager of Turin-Caselle Airport.[1]
