Date of the event:
On 24 October 2026 Fabi (Federazione Autonoma Bancari Italiani) published an analysis based on Bank of Italy statistics, devoted to the trend in savings and credit of Piedmontese households over the six years up to mid-2026. The report highlights how the province of Turin is the region's leading area, both for financial wealth and for loans granted to households [1].
Financial wealth and investments
According to the analysis, the financial assets of Piedmontese households reach about €240 billion at the end of June 2026, up from just over €180 billion six years earlier, a rise of 33%. The growth mainly concerns government bonds, funds and equity holdings, which rose from about €92 billion to about €150 billion (+62%), while bank deposits grew more modestly, from €87 billion to about €90 billion (+2%) [1].
Loans to households
Loans to Piedmontese households rose from about €41 billion in 2020 to about €45 billion in mid-2026, a change of 10% over the period and 2% over the past year. The province of Turin records the highest amount, about €26 billion, up 11.7% since 2020 and 2.2% year-on-year. Among the other provinces, Novara shows the largest relative increase (15%), while Asti is the only one to show a decrease, of 4.8% over the period [1].
Current accounts and banking relationships
The report also looks at the spread of bank accounts across the region: at the end of 2025, 3,599,380 accounts were active, compared with 3,437,837 at the end of 2020, a five-year net gain of 161,543 accounts (+4.7%). About half of the accounts are held in the Turin area, which reaches 1,820,705 accounts, up 80,408 from five years earlier. Biella shows the highest percentage change over the period (17.1%), while in the past year the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola area recorded a slight decline of 121 accounts [1].
