Death of Mauro Scarato

On 31 October 2026 the death was announced of Mauro Scarato, 88, a historic figure in the business community of Susa and Val di Susa. Scarato had been the exclusive Olivetti dealer in the Susa area for over fifty years ^[1][2].

Business career

About fifty years before his death, Scarato started a sole proprietorship in Susa as the exclusive dealer for the Olivetti brand of Ivrea, then a leading name in typewriters and calculating systems across Italy. The business grew into the company Scarato Mauro S.r.l., with its historic headquarters in Piazza Terzo Reggimento Alpini in Susa, supplying products and support to families, professional firms, businesses and local public bodies ^[1][2].

As technology changed, alongside Olivetti-branded photocopiers, printers and cash registers, the company added a catalogue of computers and after-sales technical support, following the shift from mechanical to computing technology ^[1][2]. For this work Scarato was awarded the Olivetti Gold Plaque, a recognition tied to his long association with the Ivrea-based brand ^[2].

Condolences and funeral

The Municipal Administration of Susa expressed condolences over his death, remembering Scarato as an entrepreneur who helped write a page in the economic and social history of Val di Susa ^[1][2]. The funeral was held on 2 November 2026 at the church of Sant'Evasio in Susa, with the coffin arriving from the Casa Boretto care home; funeral arrangements were handled by Mondani ^[2].
