Coldiretti Torino
Coldiretti Torino is the professional organization of farmers in the Province of Turin. It is led by president Bruno Mecca Cici.[1][2]
Joining the Canavese Energy Community
In October 2026, Coldiretti Torino joined the new Renewable Energy Community (REC) established in Canavese, an independent legal entity that brings together citizens, businesses, local authorities, small and medium-sized enterprises and farms to produce, consume and share clean energy locally.[1][2]
The organization's membership was made conditional on including, in the REC's internal regulations, a rejection of so-called "ground-mounted photovoltaic parks" — installations that, according to Coldiretti Torino, consume agricultural land and lead to the eviction of farmers.[1][2] The regulations also call for giving priority, for new renewable energy installations, to the use of surfaces that are already urbanized, sealed, degraded or compromised — disused industrial, craft or commercial areas, building roofs and parking lots — avoiding the loss of productive farmland.[1]
President Bruno Mecca Cici stated that the goal is to bring the contribution of Canavese farms to clean energy production, recalling that many farmhouses already produce electricity from biogas plants, which make use of the gases produced by the fermentation of livestock waste, and from photovoltaic panels installed on the roofs of barns, homes and production facilities. According to Mecca Cici, the aim is to bring these production sources together into a system for the area's energy self-sufficiency, in a context in which real estate brokers and investment funds are buying farmland to build photovoltaic parks.[1][2]
