Caprie
Caprie is a municipality in the lower Susa Valley (Val di Susa), in the Metropolitan City of Turin. The village has a long-standing fruit-growing tradition, developed on alluvial land once used for peach orchards and later turned into extensive apple orchards [1].
The «La mela e dintorni» fair
Every autumn Caprie hosts the «La mela e dintorni» («The apple and its surroundings») fair, promoted by the local committee together with the municipal administration and the town's associations, as part of the GustoValsusa food-and-wine series organised by the mountain union (Unione montana) [1]. In 2026 the event reaches its twenty-fourth edition, held in the historic centre on Sunday 8 November and dedicated to what sources call the «fruit of sin» [1].
The programme includes food offerings such as a new sweet called "Pomet", themed menus in the town's restaurants priced at 25 euros by reservation (drinks excluded), the "Gustare passeggiando" (tasting while strolling) route, and a refreshment point on via Maffiodo Lino [1]. Among the related initiatives, the restaurant-pizzeria Il Cappellaio Matto offers an apple-themed lunch, with dishes such as a small apple and sausage pie, tomino cheese with apple cream, gnocchi with apple and speck, pork loin with a potato, apple and cinnamon gateau, and Tarte Tatin for dessert [2].
The day before the fair, on Saturday, the Giovanni Brunetto municipal library organises "Mela-Creo", an art workshop for children aged 6 to 10 in the council chamber of piazza Matteotti, with compulsory booking [1].
The market exhibition and the pomological show
The central feature of the event is «La mela in vetrina» («The apple on display»), a market of the area's food and craft products, laid out along a loop route through via Maffiodo Lino, piazza San Rocco, via Braere, via Pettigiani Nello and piazza Martiri della Libertà, where growers from the Susa and Sangone valleys take part [1]. The parish hall on via Maffiodo Lino also hosts the pomological exhibition, set up to present old apple varieties of the Susa Valley [1].
