Burolo

Burolo is a municipality (comune) in the Metropolitan City of Turin, located in Canavese, near Ivrea. Its territory borders the areas of Ivrea and Settimo Vittone, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Ivrea Carabinieri Company.

Inspection at a sushi restaurant

On 9 October 2026, Carabinieri from the Ivrea Company, together with personnel from the Mobile Radio Unit and the Ivrea and Settimo Vittone stations, carried out a special territorial control operation in the municipalities of Ivrea and Burolo, supported by Turin's Labour Inspectorate Unit and by staff from the ASL To4's Sprasal and Sian services ^[3]. As part of this operation, a hygiene, health and labour inspection was carried out at a sushi restaurant in Burolo called Hare, located in strada Lago di Viverone ^[4].

The inspection led to a report, without arrest, against the twenty-nine-year-old owner of the business for a number of offences and violations of workplace safety rules ^[1][3]. Inside the building, inspectors found twenty-one rooms and four bathrooms illegally converted into dormitories for employees, lacking minimum habitability requirements and adequate ventilation openings ^[1][3]. It also emerged that an area originally meant for food storage had been turned into a dormitory without any authorisation for the change of use ^[3][4].

The checks covered twenty-seven employees, among whom inspectors found one worker employed entirely off the books ^[1][2]. None of the staff had undergone the required medical fitness examinations or received mandatory health and safety training ^[1][2][3]. Inspectors also found unauthorised video surveillance equipment and non-compliance along the food supply chain ^[1][2][4].

Turin's Labour Inspectorate Unit ordered the preventive seizure of all rooms used as dormitories ^[1][2][4]. The owner was given administrative sanctions and fines totalling more than 20,000 euros ^[1][2][4].
