Attempted gold scam in Orbassano on 4 November 2026
Date of the event:
On the afternoon of 4 November 2026, in Orbassano, an attempted scam against an elderly couple took place, foiled thanks to the victims' own alertness. The incident led to the arrest in the act of a 34-year-old man, from Turin and effectively homeless, by the Carabinieri of the Orbassano and Piossasco stations [1][2].
How it unfolded
The couple, residents of Orbassano, were contacted by phone by a man who introduced himself as a Carabinieri officer. The self-styled officer mentioned an alleged judicial comparison procedure, asking the couple to hand over their gold jewellery to an agent who would arrive shortly at their home [1][3].
Suspicious of the request, the two elderly victims decided to contact the real Carabinieri directly to verify what was happening, rather than follow the instructions received over the phone [2][3].
The Carabinieri's intervention
The report triggered the intervention of operational patrols from the Orbassano and Piossasco stations, who staked out near the home while waiting for the accomplice tasked with collecting the jewellery to arrive [1][3].
When the 34-year-old showed up to collect the valuables, he was stopped on the street by the officers. The man was arrested in the act on strong grounds of suspicion of attempted aggravated scam in complicity and, by order of the judicial authority, was taken to the Lorusso e Cutugno prison in Turin [1][2][3].
The man is presumed not guilty, as the measures were adopted during the preliminary investigation stage [2].
