Piossasco
Piossasco is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Turin. Monte San Giorgio rises within its territory, inside the eponymous nature park, a protected area managed by the Natural Systems Directorate of the Metropolitan City of Turin.[1]
The Frassati trail
On 26 September 2026, a trail was inaugurated in Piossasco within the Monte San Giorgio nature park, named after Pier Giorgio Frassati (1901-1925), canonised in 2025. The route reaches the summit of the mountain with an elevation gain of just under 450 metres, along an easy cart track that can be covered on foot or by mountain bike in about an hour and a half.[1][2]
The initiative was proposed by the association Corona Verde di San Vito and by the Santi Apostoli parish of Piossasco, part of the Catholic Action group, within the Park Roundtable, a forum for dialogue between the managing body, the municipal administration and local associations. The project was then carried out with the contribution of the Natural Systems Directorate of the Metropolitan City of Turin, in collaboration with the Municipality of Piossasco.[1]
Along the route, six information boards have been placed dedicated to the life of Pier Giorgio Frassati, described by the organisers as a passionate mountaineer and a symbol of solidarity towards the weakest. The Metropolitan City of Turin's councillor for the environment, parks and protected areas, Alessandro Sicchiero, said the boards offer visitors an opportunity to reflect on the values of environmental protection and personal balance.[1][2]
The gathering point for the inauguration was set for 10am on Saturday 26 September 2026 in via Monte Grappa, in the Cà Dorina locality, at the start of the dirt road leading to the trail. On reaching the summit, participants were offered a toast.[1][2]
