In the early afternoon of Sunday 4 October 2026, in the isolation wing of the "Rodolfo Morandi" prison in Saluzzo, an inmate linked to Camorra-style organised crime punched a senior officer and an officer of the Italian prison police.1
This was reported by the Osapp union, according to which the two officers were taken to the emergency room of Saluzzo hospital and discharged with a prognosis of five days each.12
The union stated that the same inmate had already assaulted an inspector the previous September.1 Osapp's general secretary, Leo Beneduci, described the situation as "no longer tolerable" and called for the closure of the isolation wing, which he considers dangerous and lacking adequate security measures.2
