Assembly outside the gates at the Regina Margherita
On 12 October 2026 students at the branch of the Regina Margherita lyceum, on Via Casana in Turin, held an assembly outside the school gates. The initiative is part of the student mobilisation that, since the beginning of the week, has involved several secondary schools in the city, including the Gobetti, the Lagrange and the Einstein lyceums, against the school decree issued by the government with measures on the integration of foreign pupils, as well as over the right to education and the liveability of school buildings.[1]
The preceding days
The main building of the Regina Margherita had already been occupied since the previous Monday. At the Via Casana branch, however, a few days before the assembly the gates had remained closed, with students outside and some teachers inside the building. The school had justified the closure, in a circular published on its website, citing security reasons, reporting the presence of people from outside the school ready to occupy the premises together with a group of students. The situation had been described as critical and risky for everyone's safety, although no one had requested the intervention of the Carabinieri.[1]
The assembly of 12 October
On 12 October the assembly was held outside the lyceum's gates, this time with the teachers' approval, unlike the previous days when access had been blocked.[1]
The city context
The Turin student protest had already reached, on Friday 9 October, the headquarters of the Metropolitan City on Corso Inghilterra, near Porta Susa station, where around a hundred young people had demonstrated with banners and chants through a megaphone.[1]
