Arte, Artigianato, Musica e… Siole Pien-e
«Arte, Artigianato, Musica e… Siole Pien-e» is an event held every year in the hamlet of Rivera in the municipality of Almese, in Val di Susa. The event is dedicated to the flat golden Piedmontese onion, which is the star of the dishes served at the restaurants taking part in the initiative, and includes art exhibitions, concerts, gastronomic competitions, sporting activities and religious events tied to the town's traditions.[1][2]
2026 edition
The 2026 edition ran from Thursday 1 to Sunday 11 October. On Friday 2 October at 6:30 pm, the exhibition «Esordi, ricerca e sperimentazioni» by artist Donatella Gagliardi, winner of the 2025 Estemporanea d'Arte and creator of the visual identity for the 2026 edition of the event, was inaugurated at the Ricetto di San Mauro. At 9 pm, in the Palatenda, town officials opened the event programme, followed by a concert by the Filarmonica di Rivera.[1][2]
Saturday 3 October saw the opening of the first edition of the Torneo della Siola Under-19 volleyball tournament, organised with the Volley Almese club. At 9 am a musical walk with the Filarmonica di Rivera took place, along with the traditional distribution of the Sonetti. By 2 pm, at the parish hall, dishes entered in the apple pie and stuffed onion competitions had been handed in, to be judged by students of the Formont Institute of Oulx. At 3:30 pm, at the municipal bakery, a bread and biscuit-making workshop was held, and at 4 pm the sculpture exhibition «L'attimo e la Forma» by Rivera-based artist Ivo Bonino was inaugurated. From 8 pm, the Cena delle Streghe (Witches' Dinner) took place, featuring a theatrical performance and a dinner served in the Palatenda.[1][2]
The Siole Pien-e and the Sunday of the festival
On Sunday 4 October, the stars of the event were the Siole Pien-e in the Rivera style, prepared with either amaretti or meat, alongside «Bignette cui Pum», apple fritters sprinkled with sugar. At 9 am a market opened along the streets of Rivera, featuring local products, artisan crafts and Slow Food Presidia. From 10 am to 5 pm, the «La Cipolla in Festa» open-air art event, organised by the Cumalè association, took place, while traditional games were held in the sports field and a charity stall was set up in the parish hall. From 10 am to 4 pm, on Via Santo Stefano, the «Motor Vej d'la Valsusa» vintage car exhibition was held. At 11 am a solemn Mass took place, followed by a procession through the town's streets.[1][2]
From midday, Siole Pien-e and Bignette cui Pum were served in the sports field. From 2:30 pm, dance performances by Armonia del Movimento took place, and at 3 pm the children's event «Il Bosco racconta...» was held with the Bosco delle Meraviglie. The Federazione Italiana Escursionismo organised a guided visit to the medieval Tower of San Mauro, while the Donatella Gagliardi exhibition continued at the Ricetto. At 4 pm, in the Almese municipal gymnasium, the Torneo della Siola final was held, and from 5 pm, in the Palatenda, prizes were awarded for the pie and stuffed onion competition, the volleyball tournament and the Estemporanea d'Arte.[1][2]
On Monday 5 October at 7 pm, a dinner was held in collaboration with the Cuochi della Mole association and the young people of the l'Un e l'AUT association.[1]
