Arrests at the Bardonecchia border on 2 November 2026

On 2 November 2026 officers of the Bardonecchia Border Police Sector arrested two people subject to separate European Arrest Warrants (EAW), during routine territorial control activity at the border, an area of passage for mobility between Italy and France [1][2].
The measures
One of the two men detained, a nineteen-year-old of Romanian nationality, was wanted in connection with proceedings for fraud. According to the accusation, between March and June 2026 he allegedly induced employees of several companies to make top-ups and money transfers, posing as an operator of a transaction company under the pretext of technical checks. The funds, amounting to several thousand Romanian lei, were allegedly moved through bank accounts and online gambling platforms, with subsequent withdrawals and transfers [1][2]. The young man was also found in possession of a false identity card and was arrested in flagrante for possessing a false document valid for travel abroad [1][2].
The second man detained, a twenty-year-old, was subject to a European Arrest Warrant relating to the offence of attempted murder. According to a Romanian court ruling, on 15 April 2025 he allegedly struck a man with a blade in the left side of the chest with the intention of killing him; the man did not die for reasons beyond the perpetrator's control. The victim suffered rib fractures and a small pneumothorax, with a prognosis of 40 days. The ruling set a remaining sentence of four years and six months' imprisonment to be served; the European Arrest Warrant, issued on 4 August 2026, was used to allow his arrest and surrender to the Romanian authorities for the sentence to be carried out [1][2].
Outcome
At the end of the required procedures, the two men arrested were placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authorities for further decisions under the law [2].
