Announcement of the expansion of Nuvola Lavazza of 12 October 2026
On 12 October 2026 the Lavazza Group made public the extension of the urban regeneration project started with Nuvola Lavazza, in Turin's Aurora district, to a new block between Via Pisa and the Dora.[1][2]
The announcement
The company has entrusted the project to French architect Jean Nouvel, winner of the 2008 Pritzker Prize, together with French-Lebanese architect Hala Wardé. The design team also includes the Turin-based studio Picco Architetti and the engineering firm EP&S.[1][2]
According to Lavazza, the project is intended to enhance the industrial character of the existing building, renewing its identity with a contemporary architectural design consistent with the urban landscape of the stretch facing the Dora. The new hub will feature spaces arranged over several levels, designed to interact with the Nuvola Lavazza complex and to bring together coffee culture, architecture and contemporary art.[1][2]
The area and the collaboration with Giuseppe Penone
The overall area affected by the project, bounded by Via Pisa, Via Bologna and the Dora riverfront, also includes the creative workshop of artist Giuseppe Penone, a leading figure of Arte Povera, a movement born and developed in Turin from the 1960s onward. Penone will collaborate on the new project together with Jean Nouvel, with whom he has an artistic partnership begun on the occasion of his work at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, designed by Nouvel himself.[1][2]
The project will be developed within the planned approval process and in ongoing dialogue with the City of Turin and the relevant authorities, with the declared aim of continuing the urban regeneration process already begun with Nuvola in the Aurora district.[1][2]
