Announcement of the end of the Andrea Villa project

On 3 November 2026 the anonymous street artist known by the pseudonym Andrea Villa announced on his social media channels the end of the artistic project that has carried his name for years, based on the night-time appearance of unauthorized posters in the advertising spaces of Turin's streets [1].

The announcement

In the published message, the artist wrote: «Dopo anni di interventi, manifesti e provocazioni, il progetto artistico Andrea Villa giunge alla sua conclusione» («After years of interventions, posters and provocations, the Andrea Villa artistic project comes to its conclusion»), describing the journey as made of «experimentation, irony, social criticism and engagement with current events» [1]. He explained that the experience had «exhausted its expressive function» and that the time had come to devote himself to other forms of artistic research, thanking those who had followed and discussed the project over the years and specifying that the posters will remain «as a testimony to an important creative season». He did not rule out a future revival of the project «in a different form» [1].

The Andrea Villa project

The pseudonym identifies an anonymous Turin street artist, known for provocative posters that have appeared on the city's streets, often in spaces reserved for advertising, since 2014. The works, created using photomontage, satire and references to pop culture, rework images and advertising messages to prompt reflection on politics, social phenomena and the role of the media [1].

The artistic name originated from a journalistic mistake: in 2017 a satirical poster was attributed to the name of a passer-by who had photographed it, Andrea Villa, and the artist decided to keep that pseudonym [1]. Anonymity shifts attention from the person to the content of the works; although often described as Turin's Banksy, the artist prefers to distinguish his own path from that of the British street artist, identifying instead with a form of street art 2.0 in which the posters are designed to draw attention in urban space and continue to live on through photographs and sharing on social networks [1]. In 2018 he was voted Piemontese of the Year by the readers of Quotidiano Piemontese [1].
