Andrea Villa
Andrea Villa is the pseudonym of an anonymous Turin street artist, who became known for provocative posters that appeared on the city's streets, often in spaces reserved for roadside advertising [1].
Origin of the name
The pseudonym originated from a journalistic mistake: in 2017 a satirical poster by the artist was attributed to the name of a passer-by who had photographed it, Andrea Villa, and the author decided to keep that name as his own artistic pseudonym [1].
Artistic activity
The artist began creating his works in 2014, using photomontage, satire and references to pop culture to rework images and advertising messages, with the aim of prompting reflection on politics, social phenomena and the role of the media [1]. The choice of anonymity and the use of a pseudonym helps shift attention from the person to the content of the works [1]. Often described as Turin's Banksy, the artist prefers to distinguish his own path from that of the British street artist, identifying instead with a form of street art 2.0, in which the posters are designed to draw attention in urban space and continue to live on through photographs and sharing on social networks [1].
In 2018 he was voted Piemontese of the Year by the readers of Quotidiano Piemontese [1].
The end of the project
On 3 November 2026 Andrea Villa announced on social media the end of his artistic project, after years of interventions, posters and provocations on the streets of Turin [1]. In the announcement he wrote that he felt the experience had exhausted its expressive function and that he wanted to devote himself to other forms of artistic research, adding that the posters created will remain as a testimony to this creative season, and not ruling out a possible revival of the project in the future, in a different form [1].
