Valsesia
Valsesia is an inner area of Piedmont, included in the 2021–2027 regional programming dedicated to inner areas, which has a total of more than 89 million euros available [1]. In June 2026 almost 23 million euros were announced for this area and for that of the Terre del Giarolo [1].
Funding for fire prevention
On 29 October 2026 the Piedmont Region allocated more than 1.3 million euros to strengthen forest fire prevention in the inner areas of Valsesia and Terre del Giarolo. About 817,000 euros are earmarked for Valsesia, while 568,000 go to Terre del Giarolo [1].
The funds will finance structural and targeted measures in the most exposed areas, including the maintenance and clearing of firebreaks, the reduction of the most flammable vegetation, preventive forestry measures, targeted grazing and prescribed-burning techniques to slow the spread of flames [1].
The installation of five mobile 20,000-litre firefighting water tanks in Valsesia (four in Terre del Giarolo) is also planned, together with the purchase of special vehicles for water supply. The funds will also finance the construction of access pads and fencing, and the restoration of roads needed to guarantee rapid access to water points and forest areas [1].
Regional councillors Marco Gallo and Marco Gabusi stated: «We are acting before the emergency, with careful planning to protect forests, communities and infrastructure in the face of growing risks linked to climate change» [1].
