University of Eastern Piedmont
The University of Eastern Piedmont (UPO) is a Piedmontese university with a campus in Alessandria. At this campus, academic events open to discussion with the judiciary, the bar and local law enforcement are held [1].
Conference on participatory security
On Thursday 29 October 2026, the university's Alessandria campus hosted a meeting titled «Il ruolo della Polizia di Stato nella sicurezza partecipata» (The role of the State Police in participatory security). The round table was coordinated by lecturer Alessandro Provera and was attended by Dr Gianluigi Biasci of the Alessandria Court, the Alessandria public prosecutor Cesare Parodi, lawyer Piero Monti and lecturer Davide Servetti, together with the chief of police (Questore) of the province of Asti Marina Di Donato and the chief of police of the province of Alessandria Giuseppe Mariani [1].
The meeting focused on the themes of perceived security and the management of public order, with a closer look at the functions of the Public Security Authorities and the search for a balance between the guarantee of constitutional rights and the protection of public order. Reference was also made to news events in which individuals or isolated fringes had allegedly tried to exploit demonstrations to create disorder, with the State Police intervening to isolate those responsible for unlawful conduct and to protect peaceful demonstrators [1].
Cooperation with the police headquarters
During the meeting, the active agreements between the university and the police headquarters (Questure) of Asti and Alessandria were outlined. As part of this cooperation, five students of the University of Eastern Piedmont are taking part in a training programme within State Police structures, combining theoretical study with practical experience on the projects of the police headquarters [1].
