Trial for group sexual assault involving Bra Calcio players
Date of the event:
The trial concerns three former Bra Calcio players, Fausto Perseu, Alessio Rosa and Christ Jesus Mawete, charged with the group sexual assault of a twenty-year-old student from Turin. The proceedings, held under the abbreviated procedure (rito abbreviato), concluded on 5 November 2026 with a conviction for all three defendants [1].
The facts
According to the judicial reconstruction, the events date back to the evening of 30 May 2025 in Bra, a month and a half after the team's promotion from Serie D to Serie C, celebrated that evening in the town centre. The young woman, who already knew one member of the club, had accepted Perseu's invitation to go back to his flat after the party. There, she says, she was joined by Rosa and Mawete, and according to the victim's account the group assault took place in that context [1].
The episode was interrupted thanks to the intervention of a friend of the young woman, who alerted other players and threatened to call the Carabinieri. Three days later, the twenty-year-old filed a police report, following medical examinations carried out at Turin's Sant'Anna hospital [1].
The investigation
The investigation documented messages exchanged between the players and some teammates who were not under investigation in the days after the events, including chats in which videos recorded during the abuse were discussed and shared. For this reason, Rosa also faces a charge of revenge porn, for sending the footage to the team's group chat called "We are Champs", read and commented on by several people without the student's knowledge [1].
The trial and the verdict
During the trial, the defendants denied that the sexual intercourse had taken place without consent, putting forward versions that attributed the initiative to the victim. Judge Victoria Dunn handed down sentences higher than those requested by deputy prosecutor Davide Greco: four years and two months in prison for Fausto Perseu and Alessio Rosa, and three years, eight months and twenty days for Christ Jesus Mawete, with the one-third reduction provided for by the abbreviated procedure [1].
The three convicted men must also compensate the victim, represented by lawyer Luca Cavallo, with an interim payment of €50,000, plus a further €10,000 to be paid immediately to the young woman's parents. At the end of the hearing, lawyer Cavallo said he was satisfied with the verdict, while stressing that it does not ease the suffering experienced by his client [1].
