Talks on Unabomber and negotiation at the Torino Crime Festival 2026

On 10 October 2026, the Fondazione OMI – Opera Munifica Istruzione, at via San Massimo 21 in Turin, hosts two talks of the eleventh edition of the Torino Crime Festival, dedicated to the theme The Power of Ritual.[1]

Unabomber and Ted Kaczynski

At 3:30 p.m. the talk Unabomber and Ted Kaczynski – Two Stories, Two Profiles, Two Investigations takes place, comparing the case of the Italian Unabomber, behind a series of bombings whose perpetrator was never definitively identified, with that of Ted Kaczynski, the American mathematician responsible for a campaign of dynamite bombings that lasted almost twenty years in the United States. Speakers include the criminologist Domingo Magliocca, an expert in geographic profiling, and the criminologist Magda Tresoldi, moderated by the criminologist Fabrizio Russo.[1]

Negotiation and crisis management

At 6 p.m., in the same venue, the talk The Last Word – Negotiation, Criminal Behaviour and Crisis Management takes place, with Jack Cambria, former commander of the NYPD Hostage Negotiation Team, the New York City police department. Cambria talks with the criminologist Erika Tortello, in an event combining hands-on negotiation experience with the study of the psychological and behavioural mechanisms of critical situations. The talk is again moderated by Fabrizio Russo. It follows the discussion held the day before by Cambria with the psychiatrist Matteo Rampin.[1]
