Regional Council of Piedmont approves differentiated autonomy (September 2026)
On 22 September 2026 the Regional Council of Piedmont approved by majority vote the draft resolution on differentiated autonomy, incorporating the content of the agreements between the State and the Region and defining the areas of competence subject to transfer: civil protection, professions, supplementary and complementary pension schemes, health protection, and coordination of public finance. For civil protection, the measure aims to speed up emergency response procedures; on the healthcare front, it provides for greater flexibility in planning, with the possibility of reinvesting efficiency savings while respecting the Essential Levels of Care (Livelli essenziali di assistenza).
The majority groups voted in favour, viewing the measure as a tool to strengthen regional administrative action; the opposition confirmed its disagreement. The leader of the Lega group in the Chamber of Deputies, Riccardo Molinari, described the approval as «another important step forward towards the final goal», citing among others governor Alberto Cirio, councillor Bussalino and the chair of the Autonomy committee, Cerutti, and pointing to a federal State as the long-term objective.
