The Ream trial concerned a €5 million deposit that the company Ream had paid to the City of Turin in 2012 for the former Westinghouse area: the project was later taken over by others and the sum, which was to be repaid, did not appear in the City's 2016 budget.[1]
In September 2020 Mayor Chiara Appendino was sentenced at first instance to six months, suspended, for falsifying a public document; a few weeks later she announced that she would not run for re-election, calling the decision a «choice of consistency».[2]
On 16 May 2022 the Court of Appeal acquitted her, along with former chief of staff Paolo Giordana and former budget councillor Sergio Rolando.[1] On 16 June 2023 the Court of Cassation rejected the appeal by the Turin Prosecutor General's Office and made the acquittal of the three defendants final, «because the act does not constitute a crime».[3]
