Career at Ducati
The 2026 MotoGP championship is the last season in which Bagnaia races for Ducati: the rider and the manufacturer have announced they will part ways at the end of the season [2].
The crash at the 2026 Qatar Grand Prix
On 7 November 2026, during the Sprint race of the Qatar Grand Prix at the Lusail International Circuit, Bagnaia was involved in a crash on the second lap. The contact was caused by Fermín Aldeguer, who was unable to brake in time while attempting to overtake Pedro Acosta and hit the Chivasso rider's Ducati, causing a highside that threw him to the ground for several metres [1][2].
Race direction showed the red flag to allow medical assistance. Bagnaia remained conscious during and after the fall and was taken by stretcher to the circuit's medical centre [1][2]. Angel Charte, MotoGP's medical director, confirmed two fractures to the right foot, in the fourth and fifth metatarsals, with the injury to the fourth toe described as displaced and multiple [1].
The rider was transferred that evening to a hospital in Doha for further tests, pending his return to Italy for surgery and the start of rehabilitation [1][2]. The injury forced Bagnaia to withdraw from the following day's long race [1][2].
