Orange anti-smog alert of 29–30 October 2026 in Turin
Date of the event:
From 29 October 2026 Turin's anti-smog alert system moves to level 1 (orange), banning Euro 5 diesel vehicles, but the restrictions are suspended on 30 October for the national general strike.

On 28 October 2026 the City of Turin announced the move to level 1 (orange) of the anti-smog alert system, in effect from Thursday 29 October until Friday 30 October inclusive, the next monitoring day. The decision follows forecast data provided by Arpa Piemonte, which indicate that the value of 50 micrograms per cubic metre of daily average PM10 concentration would be exceeded for three consecutive days [1][2][3].
The restrictions
With the activation of the orange level, the structural restrictions already in force are joined by a ban on Euro 5-certified diesel vehicles used for passenger transport, in force every day, including public holidays, from 8am to 7pm. The ban on Euro 3 and Euro 4 diesel vehicles is also extended to Saturdays and Sundays, again from 8am to 7pm [2][3]. For goods vehicles, the traffic ban covers Euro 3, Euro 4 and Euro 5-certified diesel vehicles, every day including public holidays, with the same 8am–7pm hours [2][3]. The orange level also halts all vehicles fitted with the Move In device, which remain subject in any case to temporary traffic restrictions whenever a build-up of air pollutants is forecast [1][2][3].
The suspension on Friday 30 October
On Friday 30 October all environmental traffic restrictions are suspended, because of a national general strike that may also affect local public transport [1][2][3].
How the anti-smog alert system works
Any changes to the anti-smog alert level, together with the related traffic restriction measures, are announced on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, the days on which PM10 forecast data are checked, and take effect the following day [1][2][3]. The full list of anti-smog measures, exemptions and excluded road routes is available on the City of Turin's website [2][3].
