The occupation of the Curie and Buniva schools is a student protest that on 2 November 2026 affects the Marie Curie science lyceum and the art lyceum of the Buniva institute in Pinerolo, in the Turin area. Students occupy their school buildings, protesting against the government's policies on education, European rearmament and the rising cost of living [1][2].

What happened

At around 8am, student collectives close the gates of the Curie lyceum, while at the Art lyceum the entrances are blocked with padlocks. Banners and signs reading «Buniva e Curie occupati» («Buniva and Curie occupied») appear on the schools' gates. On the Curie's emergency stairs, the banner «Pinerolo est à nous» («Pinerolo is ours») reappears, already used during the student march of the previous Friday. At the Art lyceum, the words «Alea iacta est» are displayed [1].

The mobilisation is organised by the Inter-school Student Collective, which brings together groups from the city's various schools, with the Curie and Buniva in the lead [1]. Two Carabinieri patrols are stationed in front of the two schools; no disorder is reported [1].

Talks with the school management

At the Curie, after more than an hour of talks with the school management, the gates are reopened. Workshops and self-organised activities are authorised in the auditorium, along with student assemblies. Classes resume as normal for those who choose to attend, although several students leave the school during the morning [1].

At the Buniva too, the management authorises activities and assemblies in the institute's courtyard, while lessons continue as normal in the classrooms [1].

The programme

According to reports, the occupation includes three days of debates, workshops and meetings at the two schools, following the student demonstration held the previous Friday [2]. On the first day, theatre improvisation workshops and a meeting on gender-based violence are held, along with a film club and a photographic reportage exhibition with discussion. The programme for the following days is set progressively [2].
