Michelin's Turin site
Michelin's Turin site is the industrial and administrative base of Michelin Italia, the Italian subsidiary of the French multinational specialising in tyres. It houses the legal office, the company's European logistics centre and a semi-finished-product manufacturing department. From 1 January 2027 the Turin site will also house the sales office, currently based in Milan [2].
The move of the sales office
The agreement between Michelin Italia and the trade unions was signed to close the historic sales office in Milan and move it to Turin. The deal involves 250 Milan-based employees: 150 of them are salespeople who travel across Italy and will have to report to Turin instead of Milan for their work, while the others will have to choose between commuting or moving to Turin with their families to keep their jobs [2].
The union agreement officially takes effect from 1 January 2027, but the new arrangement will only become effective from the start of 2028, to give employees time to organise. The unions are helping staff plan the necessary changes [2].
Reasons for the decision
News of the expansion of the Turin site was confirmed by Agostino Mazzocchi, chairman and chief executive of Michelin Italia. The stated aim is to concentrate company functions alongside the industrial and administrative facilities already present in Turin [2].
Michelin's presence in Piedmont
Michelin employs a total of 3,800 people in Piedmont. Besides the Turin site, the multinational is also present in the region with plants in Cuneo and Alessandria [2].
