Mathi is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Turin, crossed by Provincial Road 2, which links the Turin area to the Lanzo Valleys (Valli di Lanzo). The village has a municipal administration led by mayor Vittorio Rocchietti.

Roads and the bypass

The municipal area is crossed by a bypass road along Provincial Road 2, on which there is a traffic light active in the direction towards Lanzo that detects any red-light running. The road runs alongside a residential area of the village, from which vehicles enter the main road [1].

Safety upgrade project

In October 2026 the Metropolitan City of Turin and the municipality of Mathi opened talks, as part of the "Comuni in linea" ("Municipalities online") initiative, on making pedestrian crossings on the bypass safer. The meeting was attended by the metropolitan deputy mayor Jacopo Suppo, mayor Vittorio Rocchietti and the municipal councillor for public works and roads Tommaso Turinetti [1].

A Feasibility Study of Project Alternatives (DOCFAP), drawn up in previous years by technicians from the Metropolitan City's Department for Integrated Actions with Local Authorities, estimates an overall cost for the project of 500,000 euros, with the works divided into functional lots [1]. Works assessed with the Metropolitan City's Roads Department 1 include making at-grade pedestrian crossings safer, upgrading lighting and signage, and building stretches of pavement [1]. Some of the works requested by the municipal administration require the area crossed by the bypass to be declared by the municipality as part of the built-up area [1]. The first lot, considered a priority, would concern the stretch towards Balangero [1].
