Livio Pepino
Livio Pepino is a former judge and one of the promoters of the legal challenge filed on 2 November 2026 with the ordinary court (tribunale) of Turin against the new electoral law introduced by the government led by Giorgia Meloni.[1]
The challenge to the electoral law
On 2 November 2026 Livio Pepino, together with seventeen other people including don Luigi Ciotti, Francesco Pallante and Marco Revelli, signed the legal challenge filed with the Turin court against the new national electoral law. The challenge, which was admitted with a first hearing set for 18 December 2026, asks the court to establish that the rights to vote and to stand for election have been infringed and to refer the constitutionality of the disputed provisions to the Constitutional Court.[1] The claimants were represented by a legal team led by Enrico Grosso, together with Vincenzo Roppo, Nicola Bottero and Roberto Lamacchia.[1]
The position expressed
Presenting the initiative, Livio Pepino noted that there is a risk that, as has already happened in the past, the electoral law could be declared unconstitutional only after a new parliament has already been elected.[1]
